Schröder strengthens Polanski after victory: "We trust Eugen"

Borussia Mönchengladbach can still win. After the cup victory against Karlsruhe, there was a collective sigh of relief, fully aware that it was only the first step on a long journey. One that will continue, initially, with Eugen Polanski as coach of the Foals.

Things haven't been going well for the Foals in the Bundesliga so far. The DFB Cup is a welcome change, isn't it? Yes! Borussia pulled off a liberating victory, earning a deserved 3-1 win against Karlsruher SC . For interim coach Eugen Polanski, it was the first win in six competitive matches in charge—and a hugely important one, too.
Despite all the trust that sporting director Rouven Schröder had placed in his coach beforehand, it was clear that a defeat against the second-division Karlsruhe team could have turned out very unpleasant. However, that didn't happen. Shuto Machino, Nico Elvedi, and Haris Tabakovic scored, bringing a positive atmosphere to Borussia Park for the first time this season.
Just the first step"You just have to look at their faces. Everyone saw that we're finally moving in that direction. I think it deserves it," Schröder summed up on the Sky microphone, but emphasized, as did Polanski, that the success was only a first step. Schröder called the 3-1 victory the "first impetus," "that's what we wanted."
Although the courageous team "lost their way a bit" at times, Schröder emphasized repeatedly that he saw a deserving winner. Polanski secured an important victory – and can continue. Schröder made that unmistakably clear. "We have great confidence in Eugen – an important victory for him. Everyone was happy for him. We trust him and are very satisfied with Eugen."
Polanski also said that he "very, very much enjoys" working with the team and "of course" wants to develop something sustainable at Borussia. Will the victory provide a boost? "Now we have to prove that," said Schröder. "We said: step by step."
On Saturday from 3:30 p.m. (LIVE! on kicker) the important away game against St. Pauli will take place at the Millerntor.
